Pre & Post Care Tips
for Waxing

Please note the following important guidelines:

  • Many medications and skincare products, including over-the-counter ones, may not be suitable for use with waxing. This list is continuously expanding, and it is challenging for me to keep it fully updated (see list below)

  • Waxing cannot be performed on sunburned, irritated skin, or areas with open skin.

  • Moles cannot be waxed.

  • Make sure your hair is long enough.  You want your hair to be  about the length of a grain of rice. Any longer than an inch will need to be trimmed +$15.

Below is a guide that, when followed, will maximize the results of your treatment as well as ensure that you encounter as few service complications as possible.

Prior to Your Appointment

  • Lightly exfoliate the area to be treated (please note that aggressive exfoliation will compromise the skin and make a waxing service inadvisable)

  • Take a mild anti-inflammatory. This is typically only recommended for Brazilian and extended bikini waxes and will help to relieve some of the discomfort associated with these waxing procedures as well as reduce the swelling that you may experience. Women may experience increased sensitivity to waxing up to a week before the start of their menstrual cycle.

  • Discontinue all use of retinoids and other chemical exfoliating agents for at least 72 hours. This is very important and failure to do so could result in lifting of the skin as these products compromise the integrity of the skin. This includes all topical prescription acne medication.

  • After undergoing a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment, it is necessary to wait a minimum of 14 days before scheduling a waxing session.

  • If you are a sunbather, or frequent the tanning salon, it is important to stay out of the sun (artificial or not) for a minimum of 24 hours prior to your service. Waxing services will not be performed if any redness due to sun exposure is present on the skin. This measure is taken solely for our clients' safety and benefit.

  • If you enjoy exercising, please do so before your waxing appointment. Exercise directly after is not recommended due to the higher risk of causing breakout.

  • It is a good idea to have a small amount of cortisone cream on hand as this will ease any irritation that you may experience as a result of your service.

After Your Appointment

Please follow the guidelines below to ensure your skin is cared for properly over the next few days. FOLLOWING THESE STEPS WILL ENSURE A BETTER POST-WAXING EXPERIENCE

Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours.

This means:

  • No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).

  • No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.

  • No tanning (sunbathing, sun beds or fake tans).

  • No exfoliants (mechanical and chemical)

  • No sport, gym work or other exercise.

  • Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands

  • Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.

  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.

  • Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended by your esthetician

  • Discontinue the use of bar soaps as they contain ingredients that are known to increase the presence of ingrown hairs.

  • Avoid fragranced products of all kinds (soaps, lotions)  for at least 12 hours

  • Begin exfoliating 48 hours after your wax and continue to exfoliate 3 times per week to minimize the presence of ingrown hairs. If you suffer from ingrown hairs it can be beneficial to discontinue the use of bar soaps as they contain ingredients that are known to increase the presence of ingrown hairs.

  • To soothe and protect the skin, apply an antiseptic cream to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment. Always wash your hands before applying any product. To prevent ingrown hairs: starting a few days after your appointment and then continuing a couple of times every week, exfoliate the areas you get waxed using a dry brush or exfoliating mitt. Take the brush and just before you step into the bath or shower gently brush the area you get waxed whilst your skin and the brush is dry.

  • After you’ve bathed/showered, apply some baby oil or vitamin E lotion to the waxed area.

  • Moisturize every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally. Don’t exfoliate too much or too rough as this can graze the skin and cause ingrown hairs.

  • You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results.

  • You will need at least 3-4 weeks growth of hair before it can be successfully removed by waxing;

  • Please do not shave between your appointments.

  • To maintain your smooth appearance, I recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks
